Scaffold boards and timber offcuts restrict the pedestrian route, creating an obstruction and trip hazard.

Practical checks on site

Supporting your CDM duties: plan, manage, monitor

Our construction H&S site inspections review how your work is being planned, managed and monitored against applicable CDM requirements. We assess site conditions, working practices and documentation, alongside your client’s requirements. The areas below are examples of the checks included, rather than an exhaustive checklist:

Access & site arrangements

Pedestrian routes, barriers, housekeeping, welfare and how people move around the working area.

Work at height

Access arrangements, edge protection and the equipment and records relevant to the work taking place.

Groundworks & plant

Excavations, segregation and the interfaces between operatives, moving plant and other trades.

Workforce & supervision

Site discussions, PPE requirements and whether supervisors and operatives understand the arrangements.

RAMS & site documentation

Whether the planned work and controls reflect the activity observed, together with relevant site records.

Fire & emergency arrangements

Fire points, escape routes and the arrangements communicated to the people working on site.

Specialist examinations and statutory equipment inspections

Specialist examinations, structural assessments and statutory equipment inspections need their own agreed scope and appropriate competence.

From visit to action

Before, during and after your inspection

  1. Step 01

    Agree the visit

Send the site location, work package, preferred date and any client requirements. We confirm the scope and reporting arrangements before booking.

  2. Step 02

    Inspect & discuss

We review the agreed work area, relevant documentation and site arrangements. Findings are discussed with the site contact. Urgent safety concerns are raised during the visit so they can be addressed promptly.

  3. Step 03

    Record & follow up

Your report records findings and prioritised corrective actions, with supporting evidence where relevant. Repeat visits can review earlier actions.

Your questions answered

Planning your inspection

Can you inspect just our subcontract package?

Yes. We can agree a review of your work area and the interfaces relevant to it. A wider site inspection needs a separately agreed scope and access arrangements.

How often should we arrange a visit?

The appropriate frequency depends on the work, its risks, changes on site and client requirements. We can discuss a one-off visit or a regular programme around your project.

Is a site inspection the same as an audit?

A site inspection reviews conditions and activities at the time of the visit. A management-system audit examines arrangements and evidence against agreed criteria. Tell us what your client has requested so we can agree the right review.

How much does a visit cost?

Site safety inspections start from £200.

What information do you need?

The site postcode, your trade or work package, current activities, preferred date, site contact and any required report format. If a client has issued an audit brief, include that too.
